On Good Friday, the annual Cross Walk will travel from Stanhope to Netcong, led by participants carrying a cross—a tradition for more than 20 years. The walk begins at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church (100 Main Street, Stanhope) and takes about an hour. All are welcome to join, whether for the full walk or just part of it.

At each of the five stops, scripture will be read, hymns sung, and prayers offered. Volunteers will help carry the large cross between locations.

Stops along the route:

  1. First Presbyterian Church, Stanhope – The story of Jesus' journey begins
  2. Bell’s Mansion driveway area – Port Morris UMC continues the story about the events Jesus faced
  3. Stanhope UMC, Netcong – The cross is brought down the aisle to the darkened altar
  4. Netcong Train Station – Reflections on Jesus’ final day
  5. St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Netcong – Scripture, hymns, and closing prayer

This community Cross Walk brings together churches of different traditions in a shared expression of faith, unity, and remembrance. It honors Jesus’ journey to the cross and reminds us that we walk together—carrying one another’s burdens with grace and hope.
